Contacting your favourite bands.

So I couldn't help myself and mailed Corrupted about their gig in London I went to.

"Dear Corrupted,

I know this is not exactly an inquiry but I am sending you this email anyway. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your absolutely mindblowing performance in London. I had come all the way from Belgium to be able to see you guys and I don't regret it for even one second. I hope that, in the future, I will be able to experience you again some time. And for reply, only one day later, I got:

It made me glee in excitement! It is very cool to see how a band takes time to reply to pure, unrelenting faggotry and fanboyjizz. Have you ever done anything like this, or am I alone on it?

I lost the correspondences, but usually I take the time to send e-mails or myspace messages to bands playing shows near me that I can't attend for various reasons (18+, etc.). I know I've done it with... Bible of the Devil, Rosetta, and Amenra, and a few others. I remember those three responding, though. BotD expressed regret that I wouldn't able to attend their show at the Empty Bottle, Rosetta explained that their tour dates were from 2007 instead of 2008 and apologized for getting me so excited, and Amenra had the longest one doing back and for messages for a day or two... Trying to get me to set them up a gig in Albany.

All around they all seemed like really, really nice guys.

Haha, yeah, that sounds like Amenra alright. They really love touring and going out to different places and when they get somewhere, they really give every single thing they have. I think I will do this a bit more from now on, now that I've come more close to bands as a whole when I worked as security/backstage and stuff at a little local festival. You really notice that some bands really appreciate it when you let them know what you thought of their performance, and I think it's a great way to communicate overall. :)

Yeah, when I go to the noise shows down here in Albany I like to message the folks afterwards and tell them how it was. Usually it seems like the same 10 or so people show up every time so I think they appreciate hearing it from someone new.

Never tried sending an e-mail to a touring act before, though. Just the usual YOU GUYS ROCKED THE PEARL ROOM LAST NIGHT myspace deal. I may have to steal your idea next time I hit up a good show.

Same thing here, although I am becoming part of the "that same group of ten guys" nowadays. It's pretty cool, because most of them are impressed with the stuff I know, haha.

Haha I don't go to the ASAC shows because they don't often work with my schedule and I'll admit I don't like the atmosphere. It's all very pretentious "MUSIC AS ART!", the only enjoyment is very inorganic and voyeuristic. It's not like the gigs I used to hit in Chicago where people really got into the act of the music, it's just like "Yes, here we are in a gallery sitting in our designer seats watching an artist in the act~! MM QUITE! Hey, let me tell you about this NOISE ARTIST! I know! YES MHMM!" And I usually feel like I'm not welcome (and am always the youngest person there). Oh well. I'll go anyway, because fuck them!

I've spoken with band members through myspace and e-mail before, but that's about it. I know I complimented Stormcrow on the show they put on through a PM but they never replied.

Never really talked with any big bands, mostly a few back and forth messages with some indie/alt bands about recordings and whatnot. I dont really go out of my way to talk to the musicians I like.

Mostly I'd be afraid that if I got to know an artist I really enjoyed, that they'd turn out to be not as good as the music. I know I know, very Ayn Raynd-ian of me. Hush.

I usually just talk to them at the gig, but I will send them a gayspace message or comment every now and then.

I talked to Lars Jensen of Myrkgrav about his music. I was asking him if he had any tabs but he said he hates the hassle of working with guitar pro so he didn't write em.

I comment local bands after they've put on a good show, but other than that, I don't really talk to bands.

Nah, if you notice the musicians seem cool about it you just step up to them and thank them for their show. You notice right away if they're up for a chat or not. Hell, I offer most bands some beer because it's free for me anyway when I'm on duty!
