The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
probably my favorite RPG of all time.
the super-engrossing story that Oblivion players miss out on is in full form here, and the use of a journal mechanic makes it so you actually delve into the world rather than follow navigation points and quick travel around the world. Don't get me wrong, Oblivion is fun, but its predecessor knew what it was doing.
more, better spells and ability to customize, enchant, and Alchemy that actually helps.
Morrowind is an all-around win game that all RPG fans should experience.
also, discuss character builds if you want.

Its a damn good game and I've killed many hours on it. However its a little too detailed for me, and you really have to have patience to be able to get the hang of the game.

Awesome game, better than oblivion in the fact that it's MASSIVE. My only problem with it is the fact that it seems that many enchanted items seem to have useless affects. That game does exploration better than any other though, I love coming across little random caves and temples which lead to some awesome shit.

I played it a bit at my cousin's, but never really got into the story line (basically just flipped on invincibility and ran around slaughtering everyone).
I'll have to filch it from him and play about, since I beat Fable and have been itching for a game since.

The game's main plot took so long that I never bothered beating it more than once
