Fire on Fire - The Orchard

Post by Actumen on Sun Aug 30, 2009 11:36 am

My friend uploaded this to his blog http://iwrestledamusicblogonce.blogspot.com/ for me because I told him I had a hankerin' for some blogspot. Bluegrass wouldn't have been my first though on initial listening, but after my 10th go-through or so I feel like it's more appropriate. This album is kind of like the Psychfolk/Bluegrass response to the incestuous sameness of Neofolk. Michael Gira is also, apparently, pretty taken with this album (Though I've only heard it via word of mouth).

Obligatory three band mashup comparison: Marissa Nadler and Joanna Newsom having make up sex while Bill Monroe jerks off in the corner (Under a well concealing black sheet of loneliness).
In the rain.

The album contains a lot of really awesome nods to various styles of Americana, from straight bluegrass, to more Woody Guthrie type singalong stuff.
